The appointment of a new US vice president and two sales firms is part of Vesper’s expansion plans for the North American market

Vesper Marine has opened a new US office in West Creek, New Jersey. The New Zealand safety equipment maker also appointed Jason Young as its vice president of sales for the Americas.

The company has also hired Richards Marine Marketing as its sales and marketing group along the US west coast and Canadian markets. Vesper said that Mark Richards will build sales for its smartAIS transponders with boatbuilders, distributors and dealers. Wickes Marine was recently named sales and marketing representative group for the east coast.

Before Vesper, Young was the outside sales director for CWR Electronics, where he grew his segment’s sales by over 200%. Young’s mandate at Vesper Marine is to drive new business through focused distribution and customer education; expand the overall AIS market, and provide Vesper Marine with trend analysis to keep the company at the forefront of innovation.

“Jason’s incredible knowledge and extensive experience in the marine industry will be a valuable resource for customers in the world’s largest marine market,” said Jeff Robbins, CEO, Vesper Marine, in a statement. “We are also happy with our partnership with Richards Marine Marketing and Wickes Marine. With this infrastructure in place, we will be able to greatly accelerate the growth of our smartAIS products.”

SmartAIS proactively alerts boaters of potentially hazardous situations. Unlike other transponders that simply send and receive AIS data, Vesper Marine’s smartAIS transponders continuously calculate crossing situations and trigger collision avoidance alarms, plot anchor position to alert the crew of anchor dragging and trigger alarms for immediate man overboard (MOB) retrieval.
