With the exception of sterndrives, other categories continue to see growth

Info-Link Technologies has reported that retail unit sales of new boats over 15ft in the US are up by about 5% through March 2017, compared to the same period a year ago. But the monthly data also shows a slowing trend line. In March 2016, new boat sales were up 9% compared to the previous year.

Boats with outboard power were up 6% through March, though the sales trajectory has been trending lower since June 2016.

Sterndrive and jet boats were down by about 3% compared to a year ago, compared to 8% growth in March 2016.

Personal watercraft sales seem to be on an even keel, with 6% growth compared to a year ago. That category’s trend line has been consistent at about 6% growth since June 2016.

Outboard sportfishing boats remain the strongest category, up 10% compared to a year ago. They have also been on a consistent trend line since June 2016.

Ski/towboat sales saw 8% growth compared to a year ago.
