Björn Ulvaeus, a former member of Swedish pop group ABBA, and Hans Mellström, founder of Sweden's Viamare Group, are behind a project to create a new residential marina in the coastal town of Västervik, 250km south of Stockholm.

The SEK200m project will be overseen by architect Thomas Sandell, property development firm Alm Equity and construction company Peab.

Mellström’s company will run the marina, which is expected to be finished in around two years.

“Few projects have engaged me as much as this,” Ulvaeus told Dagens Industri. “I work with it a little bit every day. It feels important since Västervik is my hometown, which I left when I was 20 years' old.”

The plans involve building a restaurant and an apartment hotel with 85 flats as well as a marina outside the house.

Västervik is one of Sweden’s most frequently visited cities by boat. More than 400 people have already voiced an interest in the new project.
