Taming digital change and the shared economy is the theme of this year’s event

‘The Digital Boat Odyssey’ is the title of the 2017 Nautic Conference to be held in Paris during the Nautic Boat Show in December.

The theme of the conference will be ‘Taming digital change and the shared economy’. The third edition of the joint event of European Boating Industry (EBI), the French Federation of Nautical Industries (FIN) and the Nautic Festival, the ‘Digital Boat Odyssey’ will take place on Tuesday, December 5 from 15:00-16:45 at Scene Nautic.

According to the organisers, the event will discuss two main aspects of digital change: on land and on water, so not only the evolving way in which we start our nautical adventure before even getting on board, but also the changing habits and use of devices on sea.

Examples from other sectors, such as the automotive industry or internet platforms offering accommodation or travel, will be presented and compared with what is currently happening in boating.

The collaborative economy, which goes hand in hand with digitalisation, provides new opportunities for citizens and innovative entrepreneurs, but may also create tension between the new service providers and existing market operators. The European Commission will therefore present its approach and guidelines for Member States in regard to encouraging the development of new and innovative services, while ensuring adequate protection.

The digital change is happening fast and the answer that seems to be echoing in response to anyone wishing to stop it or even slow it down, is that memorable phrase from '2001: A Space Odyssey' - 'I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that'.

The Nautic conference will be held in English and French with simultaneous translation provided. It is free of charge and open to anyone with a valid entrance ticket to the Nautic boat show.
