Poralu Marine has teamed up with Seabin Pty Ltd for the production of an in-water collector system for floating plastic waste

Seabin Pty Ltd, a Palma-based startup company active in the fight against water pollution, has teamed up with Polaru Marine for the manufacturing and worldwide distribution of Seabin, an in-water collector system for floating plastic waste.

French company Poralu Marine, a specialist in aluminium facilities for marinas announce, is set to launch this eco-friendly solution at the end of 2016.

Seabin is the brainchild of sailor and boatbuilder Andrew Turton, and Pete Ceglinski, an industrial designer and surfer, founders of Seabin Pty Ltd through its branch The Seabin Project.

The company aims to fight against water pollution by means of innovative technologies and educational activities for businesses, communities and individuals including the children.

Faycal Rezgui, head of the environmental branch of the Poralu Marine Group, CEI, explains: "We are investing for many years in the development of eco-friendly solutions. Therefore it seemed natural to support Seabin Pty Ltd because Pete and Andrew have put their hearts into this and they were able to provide a realistic and affordable solution. This partnership is just the beginning of a long-term collaboration for both companies."

Fixed to a pontoon, the Seabin is immersed in the water and connected to an electric pump, which creates a flow to attract floating waste and hydrocarbons to the collector.

Wastes are collected in a bag composed of natural fibres. A separator cleans the water that will be released from hydrocarbons. Once full, the bag waste and pollutants container are emptied by maintenance personnel then replaced in the Seabin.

"We are very pleased to enter into this partnership which comes after many years of research and testing,” Andrew Turton and Pete Ceglinski co-founders of Seabin Pty Ltd comment.

“Our innovative and world-first design and technology partnered with Poralu Marine brings us a recognized expertise worldwide and its support shows the relevance of our approach. Together, we can develop high quality Seabins to fit the needs of users and with eco-responsible materials.

“Moreover, Poralu ‘s extensive global distribution network will allow us to be closer to our customers and thus to limit our carbon footprint. It was essential for us having a sustainable approach combining quality and responsibility to all levels from production to distribution,” they conclude.

The design and development team at Seabin Pty Ltd are supported by Poralu Marine’s R&D team of as well as its wide distribution network.
