Net sales for the marine business were up 5% from the same period last year

Yamaha Motor Company saw a modest 2.8% gain in the first-half of its fiscal year on sales of ¥853.1bn, fuelled largely by its marine division.

Net sales for the marine business were ¥188.7bn, up 5% from the same period last year. The marine segment has been the company’s strongest performer in operating income over the past three years, with the first half of this year at ¥38.2bn or a 3.5% increase over last year. Net income for the period dropped 6.3% to ¥56.9bn.

In a company statement, Yamaha reported that net sales were up, in part, thanks to a “healthy” marine segment as well as motorcycle sales in emerging markets, robotics and industrial machinery.

The company said benefits from a production ramp-up in outboard production will be realised in the second half of the fiscal year.
